Pre-Algebra

When:
Tuesdays, 12:15-1:45pm at Schole Hall in Georgetown

Prerequisites:
Accurate and quick recall of all addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts up to 12’s. Proficiency with fractions. Readiness to apply elementary math skills to positive and negative integers. Readiness to follow a syllabus and work independently.

Cost:
$800/ academic year

Format
Classes meet in person once a week for 90 minutes. Additional online help videos are provided by the instructor. Students are assigned 3-4 sections of homework per week, which are due in class and graded by the instructor with detailed feedback. Weekly timed quizzes are taken online. Exams are administered about once a month, and most are taken at home and proctored by the parent, in order to dedicate our limited class time to instruction and review. Flexible weekly office hours are available via Zoom for additional help. Students are expected to follow the syllabus and work independently at home, with help from the parent on time management and accountability.

Time Commitment
– One 90 minute class per week
– Student works independently about 3 hours per week at home

  • Glencoe Pre-Algebra, Student Edition (Glencoe Mathematics)
  • A Simple Scientific Calculator that can do square roots
  • Graph Paper
  • 3-Ring Binder
    • With sturdy dividers labeled for Handouts, Notes, Homework, Exams, and Graph Paper

Algebra I

When:
Tuesdays, 8:30-10:00am at Schole Hall in Georgetown

Prerequisites:
Proficiency with positive and negative integers, fractions, and order of operations. Familiarity with powers and roots and the coordinate plane.

Cost:
$800/ academic year

Format
Classes meet in person once a week for 90 minutes. Additional online help videos are provided by the instructor. Students are assigned 4-5 sections of homework per week, which are due in class and graded by the instructor with detailed feedback. Weekly timed quizzes are taken online. Short exams are administered after every chapter to check for understanding. These are taken at home, in order to dedicate our limited class time to instruction and review. Successful completion of Algebra I
